Ash Class

Class Teacher: Tracey Dovey

Welcome to Ash Class one of our Key Stage 2 classes here at Littlegreen Academy.

Autumn Term 2024

Ash Class have had an exceptionally busy and productive start to the new academic year. We have embraced our values and met our challenges head on. We have busy getting to know each other and figuring out where everything is! We have settled in well to classroom routines and have been busy exploring the school site.

Our learning has got off to a great start. In English, we have been very creative and have been busy making our own characters from clay.

In Food Tech, we made a fruit salad and explored smells, texture and taste.

Our communication lessons have looked at friendship and the values that can make you a good one. We all agreed that someone who makes you smile and giggle is a must!

Our topic for this term is ‘Towers and Turrets’ and we will be looking at all things to do with castles. How they were built, where and why they are found and the people who lived within them. We may even build our own!

Finally, Ash Class have worked hard in all that they have done. They have persevered when they have found things hard and felt like giving up. They have been full of ambition for both themselves and others. They have demonstrated great kindness by helping each other with the things they find tricky. They have been courageous when meeting classmates and making new friends. Most of all they are learning to be accepting of each other, and we are incredibly proud of them for that.

Autumn Term 2024  (2)

Ash Class have been incredibly busy. Our curriculum has been full of lots of creative activities from art to music to food tech. Our weekly lessons in the food tech room have really seen us improve our culinary skills. We have followed lots of interesting recipes and come up with some yummy treats. We especially loved the mummies we made for Halloween. English has also been especially successful this term as we have been working on our independent writing. The story ideas, characters and settings have been fantastic. Watching the boys develop their own ideas with such enthusiasm and vision has been a joy to see.

Our topic this term is ‘Towers and Turrets.’ We have been looking at all things to do with castles, how and why they were built and their features. We travelled to Porchester Castle to see what a real one looked like. We had great fun trying on medieval costumes and putting on a show on stage and exploring the moat. The highlight was climbing to the top of the tower, it was a bit scary climbing the spiral staircase, but the view was incredible. We have now begun to look at famous Kings and Queens and have been fascinated at all the things they got up to especially Henry VIII! We have made our very own crowns based on how we would rule our kingdoms if we were to be the monarch.

We were also super lucky to get to make our very own Ash Class snowman! The snow came down thick and heavy, so we wrapped up warm and set to work. We demonstrated all our school values whilst working as a team.

We had an idea, and we worked together until we had achieved it. Well done Ash Class!

Spring Term 2025

Ash Class have had such a productive spring term so far. We have been working hard on our independent writing this week and have been busy working on our ‘All About Me’ boxes to use as inspiration for our story writing. We are now beginning to understand how to structure our stories using descriptive language so that we draw the reader in!

Our curriculum has been full this term with lots of lovely creative activities including Art, Music and Food Tech. We even had a visit from a team of therapy dogs!

Our weekly trips to Fort Purbrook have been very popular with pupils and we are now looking forward to going out on some local walks as the weather improves.

At the beginning of the spring term, we spent time looking at animals from around the world. We decided to do our topic differently this term and it has been completely led by pupil interest. Every week a name is drawn out of a hat and that person gets to choose what we learn about in the following session. We have learnt about so many different animals from Red Pandas to Lemurs! Pupils are now experts at creating PowerPoint presentations, finding interesting videos and creating interactive word searches and activities to go with the animal of their choice. It has been a huge success!

Ash Class continue to demonstrate all of our school values. We are proud to see them persevere when things got tough, and they feel like giving up. They are full of ambition, not just for themselves but for others. They demonstrate kindness by helping each other out and show courage when working as a team. Most of all, they are accepting of each other’s efforts, and we are very proud of them for that.
